20 Jahre EU-Osterweiterung: Der Weg zum neuen vereinten Europa

Abstract

Die EU-Osterweiterung vor 20 Jahren markierte einen historischen Wendepunkt in Europa nach dem Fall der Berliner Mauer. Der Beitritt der zehn neuen Mitgliedsländer zur EU führte dort zu beeindruckendem wirtschaftlichen Wachstum, insbesondere in Polen, Tschechien und Slowenien. Die anfänglichen Bedenken bezüglich negativer Auswirkungen auf den Arbeitsmarkt und das Lohnniveau in den alten Mitgliedsländern erwiesen sich als unbegründet. Die politischen Herausforderungen zeigen sich in der dualen Wahrnehmung der EU als Förderer der Demokratie und als Einschränkung nationaler Souveränität. Diese Dualität trug zur Stärkung nationalistischer und populistischer Parteien in einigen Ländern bei. Insgesamt erwies sich die Erweiterung als erfolgreich, jedoch bleiben politische Spannungen ein zu beachtender Aspekt.
