Abstract

The recent increase of gazoline price has relaunched the debates on the vulnerability of the households in situation of automobile dependency. This paper develops a methodology to calculate the portion of household income spent on daily mobility, from which a threshold of vulnerability is proposed. This method leans largely on databases available in most of big French conurbations, and in particular on the household trip surveys. An analysis of the socioeconomic and spatial factors explaining the variations of this household vulnerability has been conducted from the Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon and Marseille household trip surveys.
