Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2. It first emerged in January 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since spread to every country in the world. As of October 4, 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported over 628 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and over 6.5 million deaths. SARS-CoV-2 is a respiratory virus that can spread through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. It can also spread through contact with contaminated surfaces or objects. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, and muscle aches.
