Az egyszerre érvényesülő társadalmi externáliák hatásai a státusjavak keresletére
[The effects on the demand for status goods exerted by single-occasion social externals]

Abstract

A társadalmi jellegű externáliák következtében az egyén fogyasztási döntését nemcsak saját preferenciarendszere és a termék jellemzői határozzák meg, hanem a többi fogyasztó hatása is. A tanulmány megvizsgálja, hogy e fogyasztói externáliák két fő formájának, az utánzási és a sznobhatásnak az egyidejű érvényesülése hogyan befolyásolja a piaci keresletet. E téma kutatása egyrészt azért fontos és aktuális, mert a társadalmi externáliát indukáló státusjószág-fogyasztás jelentős hányadát teszi ki a fogyasztási kiadásoknak; másrészt pedig, ha a vállalatok nem veszik figyelembe az interperszonális hatásokat, akkor a két hatás relatív mértékétől függően többet vagy kevesebbet termelnek annál a mennyiségnél, amely mellett a profit a maximális. A szerző arra a következtetésre jut, hogy ha a sznobhatás mértéke meghaladja az utánzási hatásét, akkor a mindkét társadalmi jellegű külső hatást magában foglaló piaci keresleti görbe kevésbé rugalmas, mint az interperszonális hatásokat nem tartalmazó piaci keresleti görbe; az utánzási hatás erősödésével azonban a piaci keresleti görbe mind rugalmasabbá válik. Ezek eredményeképpen monoton csökkenő hiperbolikus görbeként ábrázolható a státusjavak életciklusára vonatkozó, a sznob- és az utánzási hatás egymáshoz viszonyított nagyságának időbeli változását kifejező, dinamikus keresleti görbe.
