However, challenges such as high capital costs remain substantial. Medium-speed maglev systems hold the greatest potential in applications like urban ring lines, airport links, and routes through topographically challenging areas. For short-distance urban transport, traditional systems like trams and buses are still more practical and cost-effective. A key concern is the aesthetic design of maglev guideways, as their current brute, concrete appearance makes them unappealing for broader market adoption. While cost, design, and infrastructure challenges currently limit the widespread use of urban maglev, its potential to enhance urban mobility remains significant.
