Wirtschaftliche Auswirkungen der österreichischen Mitgliedschaft in der Europäischen Union

Abstract

Die österreichische Volkswirtschaft hat sich seit dem Beitritt zur Europäischen Union im Vergleich mit anderen europäischen Ländern sehr gut entwickelt. Die Verwirklichung des Binnenmarktes mit der Umsetzung der vier Grundfreiheiten hat dazu geführt, dass österreichische Unternehmen und Arbeitnehmer ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit verstärkt haben und sich im internationalen Umfeld gut behaupten konnten. In dieser Kurzstudie wird eine Abschätzung des Einflusses der EU Mitgliedschaft auf die österreichische Volkswirtschaft vorgenommen. Simulationsergebnisse mit Hilfe des Makromodells PuMA von EcoAustria liefern beachtliche Effekte des EU Beitritts auf die österreichische Volkswirtschaft. So ist im Zeitraum 1995 bis 2013 infolge des EU-Beitritts von einem um 0,6 Prozentpunkte höheren jährlichen realen BIPWachstum auszugehen. Die Beschäftigung ist jährlich um rund 16.000 Personen gestiegen und die Arbeitslosenquote war im Durchschnitt um rund 0,6 Prozentpunkte geringer. Die höhere Arbeitsproduktivität hatte Einfluss auf die Lohnentwicklung, sodass auch die realen Nettostundenlöhne jährlich um beinahe 0,3% stärker angezogen haben als im Szenario ohne einen EU-Beitritt.
