Abstract

The paper focuses on the economic research organization and development in Romania during the last century, in three distinct periods: 1918-1947, 1948-1989 and 1990-2018. Each period is analyzed taking into account its features, by presenting the economic research interest areas and topics under the circumstances of institutional research network changes, highlighting the contribution of the main promoters and scientists, and the most representative works and publications in economics. As regards the post-communist period, the paper focuses on the academic research developed by the "Costin C. Kiritescu" National Institute of Economic Research of the Romanian Academy, as well as the institutes and research centres included in its network, presenting their outstanding scientific achievements, including those related to the complex theoretical and practical issues of Romania’s transition to the market economy.
