Abstract

This thesis focuses on the existing training and employee development methods, challenges, SWOT the analysis, responsibilities of training department at PSO. It also captures the views of employees in regard to the above and attempts to show the way PSO has used and implemented training and employee development in the organization. Providing communication skills training and development solutions that empower managers and employees to significantly improve their performance through behavioral change attains positive results. The purpose of the training and employee development is to provide quality comprehensive learning opportunities and technical support that are courteous, timely, and responsive to employees' needs. When morale or productivity begins to wane, action should be taken at the onset. If there is a glitch in the way a workforce is functioning, it should never be ignored. Addressing them immediately is insurance that an organization will continue to thrive. Many organizations use training and employee development regularly for this reason to boost morale and motivation. Other times there is a specific concern that needs attention. Every successful training and development program also includes a component that addresses the current and future leadership needs of an organization. At its core, this component must provide for the systematic identification and development of managers in terms of the leadership style that drives a business and makes it unique and profitable. Training programs should be designed to consider the ability of the employee to learn the material and to use it effectively, and to make the most efficient use of resources possible. PSO attempts to ensure such measures are taken in its organization and the thesis therefore focuses around this area explaining and focusing on both the employee’s perspective and the superior perspective as well.
