Abstract

"Flexibility and working time issues are back on the agenda. On-call work enables employers to provide services round the clock, however unions emphasize that flexible working-time arrangements should not burden workers only. This report analyzes different types of on-call work. First, we look at the incidence of on-call work for various subgroups (e.g. industries and firm-size). In a second step we study the effects of on-call work on worker well-being. Finally, we discuss the most recent propositions of the German Federal Government to regulate on-call work."
