Abstract

The aim of this paper is to defend Sen's Pareto liberal paradox by arguing in favor of developing a new formalism in terms of meta-ranking preferences. This entails enhancing the traditional structure of preferences by taking into consideration motivations and individual values. The aim is to prove the analysis of attempts to resolve the liberal-Pareto paradox, which we will undertake in the first instance. After showing that factoring in individual motivations justifies the meta-ranking of preferences, we will argue that a solution to the Pareto-liberal paradox must include this notion.
