Expansión y diversificación de la educación superior universitaria, y su relación con la desigualdad y la segregación

Abstract

¿Cómo se relacionan las características socioeconómicas de los estudiantes peruanos con su acceso a distintas universidades? ¿Existe segregación principalmente socioeconómica en el acceso a universidades peruanas? ¿Dicha segregación se relaciona con una mejor oferta de calidad en la educación superior? Como un aporte en el marco de la recién promulgada Ley Universitaria, este estudio aborda estas interrogantes usando datos del censo universitario del año 2010 y clasificando a las universidades en una tipología de 4 grupos. Se encuentra que una mayor diversificación de la oferta de universidades no ha significado una mayor equidad en el acceso a distintos tipos de universidades. Lo anterior, sin embargo, no ha desencadenado una alta segregación del sistema de educación superior según la tipología planteada. No obstante ello, sí se identifican casos de universidades altamente segregadas. Finalmente, en las universidades de mayor concentración de estudiantes de nivel socioeconómico alto, existe una mejor oferta de calidad de acuerdo a los indicadores procedentes del censo.
