Abstract

*******ABSTRACT: Empirical evidence has shown the importance of nutrition in health status, school performance and work productivity, as well as economic growth. Being the Pacific of Colombia one of the regions with the worst poor nutritional status, this paper explores the role of this condition in the perpetuation of poverty in the Colombian Pacific and its direct determinants. Among the structural problems listed as inputs for the persistence of nutrition-based poverty trap in this region are: the relationship between mining and violence, limited joint development of road and employment conditions of households.
