This paper develops an analysis of the labor market from Ibague considering factors related to labor demand. Through an analysis Shift - Share employment growth is divided into three components: national, structural and regional or competitiveness, in order to assess the reasons for the lower growth of employment at Ibague. It is found that the slower growth of employment is most explained by regional effect compared with that recorded in the thirteen major cities. With this result it is argued that high unemployment of Ibague is not only due to its high overall participation rate, but also to their lower employment generation, associated with low growth of gross domestic product.
