Crecimiento económico y empleo en Ibagué

Abstract

En el presente documento se lleva a cabo un análisis del mercado laboral ibaguereño considerando factores relacionados con la demanda laboral. A través de un análisis Shift - Share se divide el crecimiento del empleo en sus tres componentes: nacional, estructural y regional o de competitividad, con el fin de evaluar las razones del menor crecimiento relativo del empleo en Ibagué. Se encontró que el efecto regional es el que más explica el menor crecimiento del empleo ibaguereño comparado con el registrado en las trece principales áreas. Con este resultado se argumenta que el elevado desempleo del Ibagué no se debe únicamente a su alta tasa global de participación, sino también a su menor generación de empleo, asociada al bajo crecimiento de su producto interno bruto.
