Recesos Escolares y Rendimiento Académico: Evidencia de un Experimento Natural

Abstract

Este trabajo utiliza la variación exógena generada por el cambio de calendario de los colegios públicos de Cali del periodo 2008-2010 para estimar el impacto de los recesos escolares sobre el rendimiento académico. Los resultados sugieren que los estudiantes que afrontaron un aumento en los días de receso mientras estaban en 10º y 11º tuvieron unos puntajes en lenguaje 0.22 desviaciones estándar menores. Para ese mismo grupo de estudiantes también se encontró un impacto sobre la distribución de los puntajes para matemáticas y el promedio de todas las áreas. Concretamente, el efecto fue negativo y significativo para los estudiantes en el percentil 25 de la distribución, mientras que fue cero o incluso positivo para aquellos en el 75.
