Educación superior en el Caribe Colombiano: Análisis de cobertura y calidad

Abstract

La presente investigación tiene como propósito fundamental estudiar la calidad de la educación superior en el Caribe colombiano. A pesar de las limitaciones en términos de estadísticas actualizadas, en el documento se analizan con cierto nivel de detalle la información referente a la acreditación de programas e instituciones, de los exámenes ECAES y de los grupos de investigación reconocidos por Colciencias. No se pueden ocultar los problemas a que se enfrenta la educación superior en el Caribe colombiano: aunque la cobertura ha aumentado en las últimas décadas, ésta aún sigue siendo baja si se compara con la media nacional. También se observa un limitado acceso a créditos educativos y escasa relación entre los sistemas de educación media y superior con el mercado laboral. Así mismo, el sistema muestra deficiencias en la calidad de los programas académicos y crecimiento desordenado de la oferta educativa. No obstante lo anterior, algunas de las universidades de la región presentan indicadores favorables en términos de costos o número de libros por estudiante, resultados de ECAES en unos programas específicos, así como grupos de investigación reconocidos
