Las exportaciones colombianas de banano, 1950-1998

Abstract

Este documento estudia la evolución de las exportaciones colombianas de banano durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Se encuentra que debido a factores fitosanitarios, climáticos y de orden público, se dieron cambios de localización de la producción bananera entre las zonas de Urabá y Santa Marta. El crecimiento de las exportaciones colombianas de banano estuvieron asociadas con la rentabilidad del cultivo, que estuvo, a su vez, influenciada por los cambios técnicos introducidos al sistema de producción y el comportamiento de la tasa de cambio real. Para el desarrollo futuro de estas exportaciones se considera clave fomentar el avance de la productividad en los cultivos, el mantenimiento de una tasa de cambio competitiva y el seguimiento de las tendencias del mercado mundial.
