Educación, calidad de vida y otras desventajas económicas de los indígenas en Colombia

Abstract

En este artículo se estudian algunas de las desventajas económicas que tiene el grupo indígena en Colombia. A pesar de que los resultados varían de acuerdo a los sectores urbano/rural así como por regiones, una conclusión general es que los indígenas, al igual que otras minorías, (i) muestran una mayor probabilidad de tener alguna necesidad básica insatisfecha, (ii) más propensión a la pobreza relativa, (iii) menos oportunidades de estar estudiando cuando están en edad escolar, y (iv) retornos a la educación más bajos. Por otro lado, en este documento se evidencian importantes disparidades entre el ingreso laboral de los indígenas y el resto de la población. A diferencia de lo que ocurre con los afrocolombianos, las disparidades en el ingreso laboral están debilmente explicadas por las diferencias grupales en el capital humano. Como consecuencia, la discriminación en el mercado laboral es otro resultado infortunado para el grupo indígena.
