Abstract

Today, we live in a truly integrated global village where social media acts as a glue that combines many of the social and economic aspects of life. Social media today is being transformed from communication channels to AI-driven smart marketplaces. Misinformation can significantly impact business operations, consumer trust, and corporate reputation. This chapter discusses Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a double-edged sword, where, on the one hand, it increases productivity and efficiency and, on the other hand, it increases the risk of misinformation such as deepfakes. It introduces the concept of social noise as a factor in amplifying misinformation and discusses measures that could be used to minimize the spread of misinformation. The chapter highlights the need for organizations to adopt risk management strategies, AI-based monitoring systems, and proactive communication frameworks to mitigate the effects of misinformation. By understanding the dynamics of social noise and leveraging AI responsibly, businesses can safeguard their operations against digital threats while harnessing technology for market advantage.
