Abstract

As generative AI technologies rapidly evolve, the ethical challenges related to their development, deployment, and broader societal impact continue to grow in significance. This paper explores the imperative of ethical governance in managing generative AI, emphasizing the critical roles of accountability, oversight, and minimizing harm. The paper examines how concepts of “moral agency” and “ethical care” can inform responsible AI governance. By conceptualizing AI systems as emerging and developing child-like entities, we propose that these technologies require ongoing supervision, ethical education, and well-defined boundaries to align with human values. The paper highlights pressing issues such as bias, transparency, and the unpredictable behavior of generative AI, advocating for a comprehensive and dynamic ethical approach to guide their growth. Ultimately, this analysis aims to provide valuable insights for technologists, policymakers, and ethicists, encouraging a balanced approach to AI development that prioritizes responsibility, empathy, and societal well-being.
