Nicht immer ein holpriger Start: Ausbildungsabbrüche haben vielfältige Ursachen

Abstract

Längst nicht alle Jugendlichen beenden eine begonnene Berufsausbildung – etwa ein Fünftel bricht vorher ab. Das muss Eltern, Vorgesetzten und politisch Verantwortlichen aber nicht unbedingt Sorgenfalten auf die Stirn treiben. Mit ihrer Analyse von Daten des Nationalen Bildungspanels (NEPS) können die Autorinnen erstmals die Bildungsverläufe der Jugendlichen genauer betrachten. Sie zeigen: In vielen Fällen sind diese Abbrüche normale Suchprozesse, die zu Neuorientierungen führen. Lösungen müssen für jene fünf Prozent der Abbrechenden gefunden werden, die sich dauerhaft von der Berufsausbildung abwenden.
