Effizienz der österreichischen Banken. Eine Best-Practice-Analyse

Abstract

Der Strukturwandel wird im Bankensektor in vielen Ländern wesentlich von Konsolidierung und Konzentration bestimmt. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die Anpassung der Unternehmensgrößen an die neuen wettbewerbsorientierten Marktbedingungen. Dies erfolgt häufig vor allem durch Fusionen und Übernahmen. Ziel der Bankenzusammenschlüsse ist, die technisch-organisatorische Effizienz der Banken signifikant zu steigern. Gemäß einer Effizienzanalyse für mehr als 800 österreichische Banken mit einem Best-Practice-Verfahren, das u. a. die Unterschiede zwischen den lokalen Märkten berücksichtigt, wird die durchschnittlich niedrige technisch-organisatorische Effizienz der österreichischen Instituten vor allem auf ungünstige lokale Marktbedingungen zurück.
