Abstract

The present study discusses the way in which persons deprived of their liberty orient themselves on the axis of temporality. The penitentiary environment is a distinct one, characterized by a barrier (bars, walls) between the individual and society, bringing together individuals from different social, ethnic, cultural backgrounds, etc., who have committed more or less serious criminal acts. Time for them is the only landmark between bars and freedom. The temporal perspective is shaped socially and situationally, through a long exposure to a certain lifestyle, the temporal perspective is internalized, an individual can show preference for the past, present or future or can reach a balance, to change its value temporal depending on the situation.
