Abstract

În timp ce prejudecățile negative sau pozitive sunt sentimente sau emoții îndreptate către grupuri și indivizi care sunt membri ai grupurilor, stereotipurile sunt credința că grupurile și membrii lor posedă trăsături pozitive sau negative. Astfel, prejudecățile sunt afective sau emoționale, iar stereotipurile sunt cognitive sau sunt produse de o evaluare a „adevărului†de o asociere între trăsături și grupuri. Există presupuneri că stereotipurile se bazează pe un anumit grad de „gândire†, în timp ce prejudecățile sunt mai puțin „gândite†. Cu toate acestea, prejudecățile și stereotipurile pot rezulta și se pot exprima după eforturi deliberate, intenționate și controlate, ceea ce înseamnă că pot fi „conștienți†. Prejudecățile și stereotipurile pot fi, de asemenea, implicite și automate, procese reflexive și răspunsuri - cu alte cuvinte, „inconștient†.
