Abstract

The reconstruction of the profession of psychologist in Romania, that has been accelerated since 2004 starting with the founding of the National College of Psychologists, involved a continuous normative and administrative structuring. At the moment we are at a stage of normative optimizations, as proven by the new psychologists code, published in the Official Monitor issue of December 20th, 2013. A good knowledge of the deontological code implies also a good knowledge of the values that are at its core so that the respecting of the ethical principles implies the respecting of the fundamental ethical values for the psychology profession. The problem which we try to address is this: How much do the code regulations coincide with the professional values of the everyday practice of psychologists? This research aims at identifying what are the main values that psychologists consider to be important, identify the differences (if they exist) in the ranking of these values between the profession of psychologist and other chosen professions, to ascertain if the important personal values coincide with the professional ones.
