Academic institution and professional achievement in Romania - Realities, perceptions, challenges

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal some psychological aspects of Romanian students' perception of sociological and professional reality. A number of 660 students from several faculties were investigated, using a number of scales and questionnaires. The research variables were: the average of the marks obtained in the first academic year, the mark obtained at the most difficult exam, the outstanding exams, the degree of satisfaction regarding academic life, social avoidance, social anxiety, emotional experiences, adaptation strategies in the academic environment, values , self-confidence, activism, resistance to change, congruence of goals. The independent variable was the category of students: optimistic and indifferent skeptics. The results showed that there are significant differences between these categories. The challenge for university managers is how to create a positive perception of professional prospects and a good job preparation.
