Abstract

The National Railway Passenger Company has as main activity: the carrying out of long-distance public transportation of passengers; making rail transport in regional and interregional traffic; luggage transportation; carrying out the transport in specialized mail-type wagons, military or prisons; metrology and road transport activity; other activities related to or adjacent to public transport by rail. The work of the locomotive driver is a complex professional activity, focused on the locomotive driving action, an activity whose engagement involves the participation of perception and intelligence, attention and skills, affectivity and will. The aim of this researche is to evaluate the distributive attention of mechanics by age and service (turnus, turn, daily) and their personality traits. This study was attended by 35 mechanics, employed at Palas Depot, Constanta, aged between 28-52 years. As a conclusion, the occurrence of fatigue on the driver is reflected, on the one hand, in changes in the response capacity to the stimuli encountered in the course of time, due to the diminishing of attention by limiting the information field, and, on the other hand, by the disorganization of the dynamic stereotypes necessary for driving the locomotive due to the diminishing ability to use skills and abilities previously form. The combination of any of these effects with other situational disturbances can cause, at any time, the wrong actions that may result in railway events and accidents.
