Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die großen Einkommensunterschiede in der Europäischen Union sind maßgebliche Treiber der innereuropäischen Migration und Standortkonkurrenz. Beides hat ärmere Menschen in den reicheren Mitgliedstaaten beunruhigt. In Großbritannien war die Einwanderung ein Hauptmotiv für den Brexit. Der Stand und die Entwicklung der europaweiten Einkommensverteilung zeigt, dass die Ungleichheit in der EU insgesamt höher ist als innerhalb der Mitgliedstaaten. Sie erreicht oder überschreitet sogar das Niveau der USA.
