Abstract

Many challenges exist for the Indian food supply chain, hence its low efficiency, unsustainability, and growth. This research aims to identify and analyze some critical infrastructural, technological, financial, and environmental constraints impacting the sector. A few critical issues include poor cold storage facilities, unreliable transportation networks, slow adoption of automation and digital technologies like AI and blockchain, and limited access to finances for the SMEs. Additionally, climate change and natural disasters, alongside geopolitical disruptions, affect the supply chains, causing the loss of food, price volatilities, and decreased competitiveness in the markets. The study, through a complete review, has found the necessity to invest in the infrastructure, technologically modernize, and enhance sustainability for boosting resilience and efficiency. The observations and findings from this study will help policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers in the area to develop robust strategies that will strengthen India's food supply chain against all global challenges.
