Abstract

Purpose: The main objective of this article is to discuss the results of a study of the key requirements and work resources of ICT-intensive people in the Polish publishing environment. Methodology: The process was carried out through qualitative research, i.e. semi-structured interviews conducted with managers managing teams in different departments and divisions. Results: Based on the interviews, key (a) resources were identified, i.e. factors that account for employees’ willingness to use technology, treating it as a support in their daily work, and (b) work requirements that are considered to be major impediments during task completion. Limitations: The representativeness of the survey sample can be considered its biggest limitation. The small group of respondents may limit the possibility of generalising the results to the entire publishing environment. Originality: The diagnosis of the requirements and resources of the digital work environment, can be an important contribution to the development of knowledge on employee management strategies. This is important insofar as no information on the above topics has been found in the literature on employees in the publishing sector. Deepening knowledge in this area will facilitate an understanding of the determinants and mechanisms of working with technology. It may also serve to initiate further research using a quantitative method.
