Abstract

The paper contains some of the most critical challenges for migration policy in the European Union, starting with a short overview on the literature and then with a briefly description of the asylum policy at the level of the European Union. A special analysis has been done on the following issues: assistance process to the member states, co decision procedures and conformity to international agreements. Based on these preliminary analysis on few current cases we found out some weaknesses of the migration policy process at the inter-institutional level in the European Union. In the last part of the paper there are some of our main conclusions.
