Descomposición de la brecha de desempleo entre hombres y mujeres en Ecuador: una comparación entre 2007 y 2017

Abstract

Las brechas de desempleo entre hombres y mujeres, aunque han disminuido en los últimos años no han desaparecido como problemática social. Un ejemplo de ello es que el país aún presenta datos significativos sobre la desigualdad en contra de las mujeres en empleo, subempleo y desempleo. El objetivo de la presente investigación es descomponer la brecha de desempleo entre hombres y mujeres en Ecuador en el año 2007 y 2017. Utilizamos datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Empleo, Desempleo y Subempleo (ENEMDU) del Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos. Los resultados muestran que en el 2007 y 2017 persiste la discriminación en el mercado laboral ecuatoriano en contra de las mujeres. La brecha salarial fue de 0,06% para el 2007 y para el 2017 fue de 0,46%. Además, utilizamos propensity score matching y encontramos que la brecha aumenta en ambos años, aunque disminuye la diferencia en el 2017. Una posible solución para disminuir esta brecha en el empleo en contra de las mujeres es mediante la regulación a las empresas e instituciones públicas para que la selección de los trabajadores sea en función de las capacidades, evitando requisitos innecesarios como el sexo para lograr una igualdad en el mercado laboral.
