Abstract

(The contribution deals with the concept of ‘conflict partnership”, developed by Walther Mueller-Jentsch, and Wolfgang Streeck's criticism on this concept. A distinction is made between Mueller-Jentsch's specific concept and a generic conception of conflictual partnership. It is argued – contrary to Mueller-Jentsch – that the former is definitely eroding, because employers’ conventional conceptions of economic rationality are no longer in line with that conventional arrangement. On the other hand it is argued – against Streeck – that some other model of conflict partnership might still be possible. However, this should not be expected from the mere adaptive development of the old version of conflict partnership but only by social innovation.)
