Abstract

[eng] The case of start ups created by public research fellows reveals some difficulties of the economics of science referring to a dichotomy between academic research and industry. The first section is dedicated to the study of these difficulties in the theory of entrepreneurship and neo-institutionalist approaches of the firm. The second section proposes a theory of innovative institutions based on the analysis of production and innovation processes. It is argued that innovative institutions can be considered as a particular type of business institutions which can be characterised by their unstable and transitory aspects.
