Abstract

[eng] The Automobile, a Commonplace Good - Owning an automobile was a privilege thirty years ago. Today, having a car has become the norm in almost all categories of the population. Nevertheless, the automobile remains an area in which there are social inequalities. Its ownership requires sacrifices within the poorest families; multiple ownership, which has developed rapidly over the past ten years, is primarily found among the wealthiest segments of the population; finally, the choice of the model expresses the financial possibilities and the behavior of the different social groups. Lastly, young people and city dwellers tend more often to buy foreign marks.
