Abstract
This course-based study aimed to explore the impact of art-based creative journaling as a teaching and learning method to foster self-expression, creativity, and personal insight among children and youth care (CYC) students. A convenient non-probability sampling strategy was used to recruit undergraduate CYC students from MacEwan University. A two-phase data collection method was employed, with the results of the first phase forming the second phase. The first phase involved collecting text and images from two years of online CYC discussion forum posts and online video presentations by CYC students. The second phase involved a conversational style focus group discussion to gain deeper insight into the thematic analysis results. The data analysis identified three themes: (a) journey to the heart through vulnerability, (b) beyond text to enhance sensory awareness, and (c) creativity is fundamental to self-expression.
