Abstract

With inflation on the rise in recent years, there has been an important debate on price increases and their impact on different areas of the economy, politics, and society. This article analyzes different methods of statistical measurement of price increases at different stages of production and consumption, as well as inflation. It exemplifies, in particular, with cases from the United States and the Netherlands. It also points out some shortcomings in the methods applied, especially in neoclassical macroeconomic models.
