Abstract

Nowadays there is a shift paradigm regarding the organizational behavior of the worker. Each day is less seen as a follower of leaders, subordinate, submissive employee, or just as a human resource. Recently, the labor segment that has grown is the so-called “knowledge workers” and is expected to increase further in the coming generations. This will become the backbone of economic development of the future society (Drucker,2002). In this research, the behavior exhibited by knowledge workers, was studied, specifically the teachers, regarding the factors that explain their work performance. The conceptual model used was the “High Performance Equation” in the work of John Schermerhorn, where the factors are: Support, Ability and Effort. The results show great consistency with the theoretical assumptions. It was possible to identify the presence of all the three factors designed by Schermerhorn, in the study sample. For processing information the statistical techniques used were: Exploratory Factor Analysis, Cluster Analysis, Logistic Regression and Classification Trees, which allowed to identify three variables that help to discriminate motivated and unmotivated teachers: their teaching skills, the material resources of the school and the age of the teacher
