Abstract

This article provides a critical comment with regard to separated liquid-vapor pathways (SLVP) for pool boiling enhancement. The types of SLVP enhancement strategies for pool boiling enhancement are summarized. These structures can be summarized as follows: micro channel extended structures, micro fin extended structures, micro porous, nanowires, nanopores, channel with porous, channel with nanowires, bi-porous, bi-philic and bi-conductive. The current various structures regarding SLVP mechanisms are reviewed in this work, and the operating principles of these novel structures for outstanding enhancement in pool boiling are summarized. This is followed by pool boiling performance parameters including critical heat flux (CHF), heat transfer coefficient (HTC), onset of boiling (ONB) and the wall superheat (ΔT) of various SLVP enhancement structures are also concluded. The advanced fabricating techniques regarding the various structures are generalized for directing this novel and superior structures. Through comparisons on different SLVP structures, the challenges of SLVP enhancement structures and the ideal boiling structures are proposed for pool boiling enhancement.
