Abstract

Micro-hydro electricity generating systems were introduced by APACE (Appropriate Technology for Community and Environment), an Australian NGO into Solomon Islands in response to the need of the villagers to have a source of income other than that obtained from royalties from logging companies. The success of the pilot project has given rise to widespread demand for similar systems to be installed in villages all over Solomon Islands.
