A two dimensional reaction-limited selective dissolution model

Abstract

Simple square lattice and triangular lattice models have been used to investigate the selective dissolution of random binary mixtures. Simulations were carried out for a wide range of compositions and “reactivity ratios”. Depending on the reactivity ratio and composition the interfaces in this model may be self-affine, self-similar or in a crossover between these two limiting geometries. Particular attention was given to the rich scaling behavior found for large reactivity ratios and compositions near the percolation threshold for the more reactive component. Some of the exponents describing the surface structure can be related to known percolation exponents. In general, the scaling behavior depends on the structure of the underlying lattice. The non-universal lattice dependence is related to the non-universal fractal dimensionality of the external perimeter.
