Pollution control investment, financial support, and rural livability

Abstract

Based on data from 31 provincial-level administrative regions in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) from 2010 to 2023, this paper utilizes a fixed effects model to analyze the relationships among investment in pollution control, financial support, and rural livability. The results indicate that both investment in pollution control and financial support can effectively enhance the level of rural livability. Mechanism analysis shows that financial support promotes rural livability through investment in pollution control. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that, compared with regions with lower tax burdens, investment in pollution control has a greater impact on rural livability in regions with higher tax burdens.
