Abstract

Production of biogas from seaweed is a novel idea for coastal people. Present research work deals with anaerobic digestion of marine algae (Sargassum) at room temperature. Comparisons are made between biogas from seaweed, water hyacinth and cowdung; the NPK ratios are also compared. Bioconversion of seaweed to methane has the potential of supplying a significant portion of the current demand for natural gas, especially in coastal areas. The present investigation deals with the yield of biogas in anaerobic digestion of marine algae.
