Abstract

Second-order memristors significantly enhance functionalities at the single-device level. This paper proposes a memristive complex-variable laser system (SMCVLS) by incorporating a second-order charge-controlled memristor to simulate electric-field effect. The system generates hidden multi-scroll attractors with controllable scroll-number, morphology, amplitude, and spatial distribution ranging from single-scroll and grid-scroll (e.g., 2 × 2, 4 × 4) to mixed configurations (e.g., 2 × 4, 4 × 2), regulated via compound function doubling operations and parameters. The energy consumption during scroll formation is validated via Hamilton energy analysis based on Helmholtz’s theorem. Notably, offset combinations enable flexible hybrid offset-boosting, yielding distance-controllable two-dimensional (2-D) coexisting attractors. The work also explores neuromorphic firing patterns and their energy-dependent dynamics. These results suggest potential applications in optical intelligent computing and secure communications.
