Determinantes del nivel de inglés en la Educación Superior en Colombia

Abstract

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar los determinantes del nivel de inglés en la educación superior en Colombia, mediante las pruebas Saber Pro del ano 2015. El estudio desarrollado, tuvo un enfoque cuantitativo de tipo transversal, descriptivo y correlacional. Los datos utilizados correspondieron a las pruebas Saber Pro del ano 2015 con 231 855 individuos. Se realizó un modelo Logit para estimar las probabilidades en la obtención de altos niveles en la competencia del idioma inglés, a partir de variables independientes conformadas por factores demográficos, socioeconómicos e institucionales. Los resultados evidenciaron que las variables que conformaban los factores mencionados, determinaban positiva o negativamente el nivel de desempeno de los estudiantes en el dominio de un segundo idioma (inglés). El estudio cuestiona el papel de las políticas bilingues en Colombia y genera planteamientos acerca de la manera en que las instituciones ensenan el inglés dentro de sus currículos, como también a la preparación docente y al uso de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación.
