Estimación de la relación entre salario mínimo y empleo en Colombia: 1984 - 2000

Abstract

en este trabajo se analizan los efectos del sarario mínimo legal (SML) sobre el empleo, en una función de demanda de trabajo, teniendo en cuenta el efecto sustitución y el efecto ingreos inducidos por el incremento del salario mínimo. las estimaciones tomaron el período 1984 - 2000, con base en la información trimestral de las Encuestas de Hogares. Una de las principales conclusiones del estudio es que el efecto neto del SML sobre el empleo es positivo, tanto para la población cubierta como la no cubierta por éste, cuando se considera en conjunto el efecto sustitución y el efecto ingreso. De otra parte, se muestra que la demanda de trabajo está determinada por el ciclo económico más que por cambios en los precios de los factores de producción.
