Abstract

Over the past decade beer consumption in Germany has fallen by almost 13% to 87.7 million hl in 2011. On a worldwide basis, however, beer production and consumption continued to increase. According to reports by the breweries participating in the Ifo Business Survey, the first signs of a positive new trend are now emerging after a downbeat atmosphere in the first half year of 2012. Business expectations for the next six months brightened somewhat in July and August.
