Wo leben welche Migranten? Eine Analyse mit Kreisdaten

Abstract

Eine Möglichkeit, der entstehenden Verknappung der Erwerbspersonen entgegenzuwirken, ist der Zuzug von Fachkräften aus dem Ausland. Die ökonomische Theorie beschreibt die räumliche Nähe zum Heimatort als einen wichtigen Faktor für die Wohnortwahl von Migranten. Mit amtlichen Daten auf Kreisebene wird der Effekt der räumlichen Nähe für die neun Nachbarländer Deutschlands verifiziert und die Bedeutung für die ostdeutschen Bundesländer herausgestellt. Für Zuwanderer aus Polen scheint die Entfernung zum eigenen Heimatland keine entscheidende Rolle zu spielen, während für alle anderen Länder ein positiver Effekt der räumlichen Nähe deutlich identifiziert werden kann. Weiterhin bestätigt sich die Sogwirkung von großen Städten wie Berlin, München oder Frankfurt am Main. Sachsen und die ostdeutschen Bundesländer sind bislang für Migranten wenig attraktiv.
