Abstract

The promotion of gender equality in workplaces is a priority public policy issue. In France, the choice has been made to give priority to company collective bargaining in order to establish mechanisms to reduce inequalities within companies. Several legislative interventions have been necessary to establish a mechanism to stimulate social dialogue. This article analyses the impact of these reforms on 282 texts signed by a sample of 200 companies in the former Aquitaine region. We highlight how these legislative changes have improved collective bargaining on gender equality but have not automatically led to an improvement in measures aimed at reducing existing inequalities within companies. Our presentation goes beyond the analysis of the mere respect of legal obligations to assess the commitments formulated by the social partners for the period 2011-2015. JEL: J16, J52, J78
