Social Perception of Polish Nongovernmental Organization Activity

Abstract

This article discusses conditions of nongovernmental organizations activity as well as their perception in the Polish society. The demonstrated results show that approach of Poles towards NGOs’ activity is in fact ambivalent: they do know these organizations, they do not want to support them fully, however. They society expresses distrust regarding the activity for an idea and want detailed knowledge about organizations to be sure what will happen with their potential donation. So, non-governmental organizations’ activity, albeit desired, faces different kinds of barriers, partly associated with low public morality of Poles, but also with economic and psychographic conditions. In this paper it is underlined that transparency of organization becomes more and more important, especially in relation to ways of using gathered funds and leaders’ accountability. It is also stressed that leaders are responsible for present and future operations of an organization and its perception in society.
